Hastelloy Foil

Hastelloy foil is a thin and flexible sheet of Hastelloy which is a group of nickel based alloy that exhibits high resistance to corrosion, high temperature strength and good mechanical strength. These foils are generally available in several grades such as Hastelloy C 276, C 22 and B 2 which have been developed to operate in dissimilar corrosive and thermal conditions. Hastelloy foil is used in chemical processing, aerospace, marine and pollution control industries where the material has to withstand severe conditions such as attack by acids, chlorides and high temperatures. Due to its thin structure, it is suitable for applications where accurate and light weight material solutions are needed without sacrificing performance.

Advantages of Hastelloy Foil

These flexible Hastelloy Foil offer numerous benefits for industrial applications.

  •  Outstanding Corrosion Resistance: Hastelloy foil is chemically immune to a broad range of corrosive media such as strong acids, alkalis and oxidizing agents.
  •  High-Temperature Stability: It has a very good strength and dimensional stability at high temperatures and therefore it is ideal for use at high temperatures.
  •  Resistance to Stress Corrosion Cracking: Hastelloy foil is immune to stress corrosion cracking and is therefore suitable for use in highly corrosive chemical applications.
  •  Pitting and Crevice Corrosion Resistance: The foil is intended to resist localized types of corrosion, for example pitting and crevice corrosion that are typical for severe conditions.
  •  Lightweight yet Durable: Nonetheless, Hastelloy foil is very thin and light but it has high mechanical strength and durability in the long run.
  •  Versatile Alloy Grades: It comes in different grades such as C276 and C22 which is designed for various operations to meet the required standards in various industries.
  •  Oxidation Resistance: Hastelloy foil is capable of resisting oxidation in high-temperature conditions; thus, the material's surface will not corrode with time.
  •  Precision Engineering: The foil is very thin and flexible, making it possible to use it in areas that would otherwise require thick material.

Hastelloy Foil offer several advantages that make them suitable for industrial and commercial applications.

Common Applications of Hastelloy Foil

Due to its excellent features, Hastelloy Foil are preferred for various industrial applications.

  •  Chemical Processing: Hastelloy foil is employed in chemical processing industries for the purpose of lining, sealing and protection of apparatus which is in contact with highly corrosive substances such as acids and solvents.
  •  Aerospace Industry: In aerospace applications Hastelloy foil is applied in heat resisting structures such as heat protection shields and thermal insulating layers in aircraft jet engines and exhaust systems.
  •  Marine Environments: Hastelloy foil is best suited to the marine environment, such as the sea water filtration and the offshore drilling where the product comes into direct contact with salt water and other corrosive agents.
  •  Pollution Control: In pollution control systems, Hastelloy foil is used in filters, scrubbers and other equipments which comes in contact with corrosive gases and liquids in flue gas desulfurization.
  •  Power Generation: Hastelloy foil has significant application in power industry particularly in nuclear and geothermal power stations where it is used in heat exchangers and other parts that come into contact with high temperature and corrosive fluids.
  •  Pharmaceutical Industry: The foil has its application in the pharmaceutical industry where it helps in protecting the equipment and surfaces that are in direct contact with the corrosive cleaning agents and chemicals.
  •  Fuel Cells: Hastelloy foil is employed in the manufacturing of fuel cells and this is due to the fact that Hastelloy is resistant to corrosion in electrochemical applications.
  •  Desalination Plants: It is used in desalination plants for seawater management and treatment, safeguarding equipment against the erosive impact of saline water and chemicals.
  •  Electronics: Hastelloy foil is used in the electronics industry to protect electronic components from heat and corrosion, especially in high end products.
  •  Catalyst Supports: The foil is used as a catalyst support in chemical reactors since it is very resistant to corrosion, thus enabling the reaction to be as efficient and long-lasting as possible.

Hastelloy Foil is applied across various industries due to its valuable features, which make them versatile.
