Stainless steel 316L is a low-carbon version of grade 316 and has better intergranular corrosion resistance. It can be machined and welded easily, making it popular for commercial and industrial applications. It is composed mainly of iron (Fe), chromium (Cr) (17-20%), nickel (Ni) (10-14%) and manganese (Mn) (<2%). It also contains small amounts of molybdenum, silicon, copper, sulfur and nitrogen, which helps increase its mechanical properties, such as strength at high temperatures.
Stainless Steel 316L is a popular type of austenitic stainless steel alloy. It offers superior corrosion resistance, excellent durability and strength at high temperatures. Its exceptional weldability makes it suitable for many applications, such as medical equipment, food processing, and marine environments with chloride-rich conditions. It also offers superior oxidation resistance at elevated temperatures, helping protect against scaling in the manufacturing process. Furthermore, its low magnetic permeability makes it a great choice for sensitive electronic components.
